If you don’t speak the language (e.g., you don’t know what a conjunctive adverb or a misplaced modifier is), you can’t use reference materials, you can’t fix your mistakes (and the mistakes of others), and you can’t improve your writing.

Grammatical mistakes are an embarrassment to the writer and a distraction to the reader. They can spoil an otherwise good letter, proposal, or report. In addition to making a poor first impression, incorrect grammar can lead to communication misunderstandings because we use grammar to establish sentence meaning and clarity.
